From pure wool to handwoven art: every step is craft
The Material
Everything at Santos is made from 100% merino wool. Merino wool is temperature-regulating, water-repellent and biodegradable. Natural, sustainable and pure.
The Spinning
The wool is hand-carded and spun on traditional spindles. This gives the fiber its characteristic strength and elasticity.
The Dyeing
Our weavers work only with natural dyes, such as plants, flowers and nut shells. Every color is gathered and made per design, making each color unique.
The Weaving
On traditional pedal looms our masters weave the pattern thread by thread, by hand. This usually takes four to sixteen weeks per artwork.
